In a sunny corner of the glorious Barony of Stonemarche, a small outdoor Cathedral sprawls invitingly. Reminiscent of the beautiful monastic gardens of England and France, the Cathedral has several altars and many plants and memorials to stroll among. Please join us for a public demonstration of the SCA in Stonemarche! Displays of various Arts and Science projects will be present, as well as feats of both Heavy Combat and Rapier Combat. Bards will present beautiful music, and heralds will be present to help those who wish to design their devices. |
From my event listing: This is a public demo, and so there will be ungarbed people wandering through. We are there to help educate and interest those in southwestern Stonemarche, and to answer their questions. If you have A&S projects, completed or ongoing, please bring them along! There is plenty of room for pavilions and tents of all sizes, as the Cathedral grounds are massive, so please bring them along for the day!
This is a single day demo - no overnight camping is permitted. If you are travelling from far away, please contact Edgithe regarding possible places to camp.
A small Gold Key will be available on site.
This is a pot-luck event, so if you wish to participate in the pot-luck meal, please contact Edgithe regarding what you'd like to bring. An ingredients list is required for all dishes presented at the pot luck. There will be space to plug in crock pots and dish warmers, as well as a covered area to eat in, in case of bad weather.
This demo is outdoors, rain or shine, so please remember to bring bug spray and sun lotion. Limited covered areas are available. The site is large and can involve much walking. Most of the site is easily accessible with walkers and wheelchairs. Dogs on leashes are welcome; please clean up after your pet!
On a practical level, what this means is that people who are not able to go to Pennsic this year, for whatever reason, will have the option of coming to the Cathedral to spend a lovely afternoon with people, in garb, showing off their passions to an interested and slightly captive audience.
This demo is slightly different from others, in that we were not asked to present this demo. Instead, I colluded with the Cathedral of the Pines staff in an effort to provide those of us in Stonemarche with a way of reaching out to our brethren and fellow citizens in the south west of our barony. This is a family heavy area, and my expectation is that about 300 people will walk past our little demo event.
If you're a fighter (heavy or rapier), come on over! I'm wrangling Marshals right now, and there will be a mock tourney, just for fun. Perhaps I can finagle someone to make a little scroll for the winner. If we can get a thrown weapons marshal, there will be a butt set up for that as well. I'll be setting up a small area with information on heraldry and discussion on how our devices and arms are created and passed. I know we'll have some people doing various A&S projects, and if you have something you're working on, bring it along!
Because the Cathedral grounds are so large, we can accommodate pavilions, if people want to bring them. We have room for a couple of fighting eriks, too, as well as a thrown weapons area that is safe and has an appropriate backstop. And if you're traveling to our lovely realm from afar, talk to me, because I have room for tents (modern or medieval) in my yard and we'll be heading back that way after the event is over and cleaned up. There will be some kind of food (probably stew), places to crash for the night (outside), and a fire pit and perhaps drumming and singing.
Tell your friends, tell your family, and come on over to Cathedral of the Pines!
